Hey Guys,

I have THE Gmat exam this coming Wednesday. I had only about a week to study and 4 days are almost over. I have a 3.9 GPA and I am not targeting top 50 colleges. I only need about 550 to get into University of Houston's MS ACCY program and probably 580 for MS Finance program. I believe I will definitely make 41+ on the Quant section; so i need about 25 in the verbal. Because of the shortage of the time, I won't be able to spend more than 5 hours on the Verbal.

25 verbal is like 36th percentile only... so I feel I can pull that off with just looking at the structure and then few examples. What should I go over in those hours that can prepare me for such low target. I do have access to the OG Verbal, OG (Main) and Manhattan set of 8 books, which includes CR, SC and RC. Should I read the books or should I just go over as many examples as possible from OG? If books, then what topics are most important to cover and if examples, then what questions range from OG should I definitely go over? Basic must know tips to succeed... basically, anything that can be covered in 5 hours.

I have not taken the GMAT practice test so I can't tell where I stand right now. I am just very confident about Maths. I am good at it and I got almost 90% of PS problems in OG right and understood the rest. Tonight, some Sunday and mostly Monday, I will keep working hard on my maths (have not really started on DS yet) - take practice test and go over reviews. I am damn sure 41 to 44 is going to be my score on the Quant section and that means I only need 22 to 25 on the Verbal. 21 is like 23 percentile so 22 to 25 does not sound hard at all for a person who mainly communicates in English. That's the reason why I have not allocated much time to verbal, but a lot of time for Quant.

Anyways, I just want some sort of guidance on how to prepare for a low verbal.

Thanks a lot in advance!

You actually want advice on how to prep in 5 hours? :D

Just do the OG. That is your best shot. When doing OG for SC, just make sure you understand the concept used in the question. So you can handle a similar question in the actual test.

Manhattan CR and RC are books of detail. You will need 3-4 days to read them!
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Well I can spend 5 to 8 hours on Verbal section. I will spend probably 15 hours on DS. I am pretty much done with PS part in Maths.

Just did a practice test (verbal only) and got 26 on it. I did not open any book yet so I think some studying will definitely keep me on pace of making 25+. Btw, I saw that I got most questions right at start.. letdown came at end when I missed 7 in a row and 8 of 9 because I was running out of time.
