Hi all,

I'm writing my GMAT in less than 3 wks and have been preparing for the test for the past 2 months. Here's a brief on my progress.

MGMAT: 650 (Q-45 V-34) - not timed
MGMAT 2: 570 (Q-35 V-33)
MGMAT 3: 630 (Q-47 V-30)
GMAT PREP: 650 (Q-44 V 34)
MGMAT 4: 620 (Q-40 V-35)
MGMAT 5: 650 (Q-44 V-35) - yesterday

Kaplan ONLINE Free test: 660 (Q-44 V-40) (i don't understand this because I only got 5 wrong in Q and 8 wrong in V) In GMAT Prep, i missed 14 in Q and 15 in V and got 650....

Analyzing my test scores, i'm in the 650 range which i want to bring up to 700+. Given the test results and with 3weeks to go, is it reasonable to attain 700+ on the actual GMAT? I noticed GMAT Prep was the most difficult and MGMAT Quant to be ridiculously impossible.

From reading the forum, I sense the the real GMAT will be more difficult than all of them combined. I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to reach my goal of 700+...

After seeing not much of improvements in the past 2 months, I'm looking for any guidance on how to prepare for the exam. I did notice that I'm making lots of silly mistakes in Quant (ie. reading/understading Q's wrong, silly error in computation due to time pressure..)

I'm making error logs in my OG11 and purple/green books and will review them throughly in the next 3 weeks. In addition to the OGs, I'm planning on taking GMAT-Prep at least 4 times along with 1 MGMAT, and maybe few Kaplan practice exams (CD version this time since online seems to be not real representative of the actual test at all...)

I have made flashcards and also using flashcards i downloaded from this forum. It seems like I'm doing everything I can but it's just not translating to my test results.

What am i doing wrong and what can I do to pass the 700+ mark???

Please help.......

**one more to people that has taken the test recently.. What did you think of the difficulty of the test compared to the other practice exams and OG??? It seems that the concensus is bit mixed but more on the difficult side...thanks.

Well, I will take the test in three weeks as well. So let me try to share some of my experiences with you.

MGMAT: 650 (Q-45 V-34) - not timed
MGMAT 2: 570 (Q-35 V-33)
MGMAT 3: 630 (Q-47 V-30)
GMAT PREP: 650 (Q-44 V 34)
MGMAT 4: 620 (Q-40 V-35)
MGMAT 5: 650 (Q-44 V-35) - yesterday

I am not sure what you took your first MGMAT cat but it looks like you are within the 40-47 range for the quant and 33-35 for the verbal part.

First of all, GMAT is not a linear test. So comparing the number of wrong answers will not give you an apple to apple comparison of two different CATS. If your target score is 700+ ---> You need to keep your verbal score at least around 35 and score between 46 - 49 on quant. ( I am just talking ball park figures )

49 is not an IMPOSSIBLE score for somebody who is not super comfortable with math and numbers. And you still can get this score even tough you get 10-15 wrong questions in a test depending on how well you started and what kind of questions you missed on the test.

I would work on my GAME plan and find out what I can do better to increase my verbal score. SC helps people not only to increase score but also save same time to be spent on RC or CR section.

On the quant section: Revisit your answers on OG books and make sure that you KNOW the fundamentals...Eric's flash cards are great too!

Craft a war plan and apply it on a GMAT Prep test. Do write those two essays so you make sure that you are tired and exhausted when you reach the Verbal section ;-) Mimic the real thing.

You will be fine. And see yourself at the finish line and try to stay calm. You can always take the exam again. We still have plenty of time for R1 an R2...

Make us all proud and beat the GMAT!

Thanks emrahercan for some great advise.

I do need to come up with the game plan, not only for the d-day but how i'm going to be spending my precious 16 days til the test date. I plan on getting Kaplan 800 over the wknd and going over all the errors from OG and purple/green guides.

You're right about the SC and I've been spending most of my time studying SC. I feel pretty good about CR & RC. I haven't worked on RC at all and I know i can probably improve slightly there. CR is my strongest area and I just need to make sure I read all the answers before making my picks since i've been known to rush through the answers and selecting the second best. SC - I just have to memorize more rules and work on identifying the problem types and make sure in grasping the concepts.

While my verbal scores are not where i need to be, i know the steps i need to take to get to where i need. My primary concern is in quant that I get lost and confused with the 700/800 questions and it is preventing me from scoring within 48-50 which is my target. I do very well w/ <700 but once the difficulty reaches >700, my hit rate drops to 70% or so...

In addition, i noticed GMATprep quant questions are so much different than anything I've seen in Kaplan, MGMAT and OGs. What are some ways to improve on those difficult ones? I try to go to the math forum and solve problems but it's difficult and it only hinders my confidence level....
