I selected D. It says "considering all the scientists who have been awarded the nobel prize ..." does it not imply every such economist until today and we are talking about Mendel and his contributions as more lauded than anyone else.

I selected D
D gives a tense error
think like this ----> who have been awarded the Nobel Prize, maybe none is more lauded than

in this sentence the time sequence suggest that noble prize was awarded prior to that adulation---> this is not possible . in real world u r first lauded for ur discovery and then awarded noble prize not vice versa !!! (unless of course noble prises are all fixed !! )

I agree with D.

My understanding is that of all the Nobelized chemists, Mendel is (still) the most glorified.

Perhaps is preferable over May on Gmat. So left with A,B and E. A and B are out because of the red part.

E is correct.
We are considering all the scientists irrespective of they are alive or not.
so From all the scientists who have been awarded the Nobel Price till now, perhaps none was more lauded than the chemist Mendel.
"was" is for other chemists
