the lone ranger is Crying a River

by AIJ248 » Wed May 25, 2011 5:20 pm
How do I begin...My goal is to score a min. of 700 on GMAT. I am working my way through the Kaplan Math GRE workbook and I have taken 4 CAT Exams in the past 3 weeks. I have the entire Manhattan Gmat series, OG, Bellcurves Math Workbook and tons of GMAT fiction. I've decided to follow the Self Study Guide format recommended by the club (this may sound silly) but I am struggling with figuring out how to study. I've been out of school since 2003 and the only computer-based exam I have taken is the ACT, I took it once in 1999!!!! :D (feeling old). Anyway, I'm working on Math first, my current "strategy" is to 1-read the chapter 2-complete the exercise, review wrong answers and enter in my error log 3-move on to the practice exam at the end of the chapter. The following day, I do all the exercises and practice exams from the previous chapters before beginning the new chapter (repeating steps 1-3). I usually only have 2hrs to study during the week but this process is becoming very time consuming considering I wanted to get through all my prep material before working on the OG. Should I just focus on the mistakes I've made (90% careless mistakes) and move on to the next chapter...focus more on going over Questions from my practice exams, I don't know where to begin...feeling overwhelmed and lost (out of the 4 exams taken, I've only been able to go over 1---yikes) Any detailed strategy and general study tips would be greatly appreciated...Looking to take GMAT in September.

MGMAT 460 Q26 V28
MGMAT 420 Q20 V28
MGMAT 520 Q34 V28
MGMAT 500 Q25 V34 ***didn't complete exam in time had to guess on the math section
MGMAT just took math section Q44

Please help me turn this river into a water amusement park filled with fun, adventure and an MBA degree!

AIJ248,

Can you analyze your week areas in both quant and verbal section. Work on those areas and try to improve them, One more suggestions I would like to say, you still have a lot of time, Keep working hard, we have always heard that "practice makes the man perfect", but in GMAT this falls to be true. the more and more you prepare the more you learn and makes you strong on your weak areas. Also, for motivation, read one of the participant post on "I just beat the GMAT, read what they did different than you.
I am not an Expert, please feel free to suggest if there is an error.

I'm no expert either, but why are you prepping from a GRE math workbook? GRE math is easier than the GMAT (I'm taking it). Also Kaplan workbook is mostly extra practice so I suggest getting Premier or Nova math bible if you want a good math review.

@MBA.Aspirant---the GRE Math was recommended on a post I read, but I will look into Premier or Nova. Thanks

@itsmebharat---the error log I pulled from the site is very useful, I am beginning to weak areas but one major problem is my carelessness when working on simple problems, or just not remembering certain formulas...that's why I keep practicing the same problems, I'm trying to focus on getting everything correct before I move on to the next topic...Should I just focus on weak topics first and then work on minimizing careless errors??

Thanks to both of you for your response!!
