D. were aesthetic, showcasing much of the avante garde design and incorporating
E. were very aesthetic, showcasing much of the avante garde design while also incorporating

Why D is wrong?
OA is E
IMO both D and E are correct;

E does change the initial meaning (1) VERY, (2) use of WHILE gives the extra emphasis on the when both activities were done - ie at the same time.

Use of VERBING1 AND VERBING2 (as in D) takes time period from the clause they modifies and therefore D suggests that BOTH SHOWCASING AND INCORPORATING were done present together when MODELS WERE INTRODUCED (the original sentence does not wants to give extra emphasis on time period of both activities. Therefore I will pick D

I would argue that D changes the meaning more than E does. The original says "showcasing...BUT ALSO incorporates" which indicates a contrast between design and engineering.

D uses "showcasing...AND incorporating" which loses that contrast.

E uses "showcasing...WHILE ALSO incorporating" which preserves that original distinction between design and engineering.

E gives importance to advances in engineering. D is just normal.

In my opinion, D and E are grammatically correct.

A: "showcasing...but also incorporates..."

D: "showcasing...and incorporating..."
E: "showcasing...while also incorporating..."

While A attempts to highlight a contrasting situation,
D says the BMW models did 2 things: "showcasing" and "incorporating";
option E restates this by saying that the models did 2 things at the same time:
"showcasing"..."while also incorporating"
