Hi,

Any thoughts on how to approach this essay topic. ITs quite open ended. what are the typical goals candidates choose? How specific should these goals be or is broad better?

Essay 1 (750-1000 words)
As a leader in global business, Wharton is committed to sustaining "a truly global presence through its engagement in the world." What goals are you committed to and why? How do you envision the Wharton MBA contributing to the attainment of those goals?

Dear tj123,

This question is just a more subtle way of asking you what your career and/or life goals are and how a Wharton MBA will help you get there. So it is similar to the other schools' question encompassing "why do you want a MBA? why now? why this school?"--essentially, what is your rationale for going to business school in relation to your past experience and future career goals. I think it is best to be specific if you can so that you appear to have given business school considerable thought and view it as the stepping stone to the next phase of your career. You don't have to give a job title and company name, but having an idea of functional area and industry is helpful.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
Lisa
