Shouldn't it be Although/even though the first word of sentece A for it to be correct??

The 2nd THAT (BOLDED) indicates that we require THAT at the end of first clause - therefore drop B/C/D.

E - there is NO contrast word available as has been the original meaning; secondly THERE IS...MEANS, IT IS DIFFICULT..(here we connect two independent clauses with A COMMA, making the sentence a fragment)
