In Hungary, as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of which are in middle management and light industry.

OA is C but I dont know why because it seems that C does not have a finite verb?!

Got some splits here

"work" and "works"

"as in" and "like"

Usage of like is not correct, eliminate D and E

A B C

Option A has wrong usage of which. "Which" cannot refer to women here

B and C

here we are comparing "women working in Hungary" to "women working in rest of Europe" and not with "Europe" per se. Also "works" is wrong usage

hence C

but somehow I feel if there would have been "many of whom work in"

You can, for example never foretell what any one man will do, but you can say with precision what an average number will be up to!

1. One should read the comparison:
In Hungary, an overwhelming proportion of women.... AS in much of Eastern Europe/LIKE much of EE

therefore AS is the right usage. Eliminate D and E.

2. an overwhelming proportion of women work/works :
When deciding the subject verb agreement of a quantity phrase, the of - phrase is the subject. So plural "women" goes with "work". Eliminate B

3. A uses "which" incorrectly.

Therefore 'C' is the best choice.

The rules:
- "Like" has to be used only when speaking about NOUN and Hypothetical Situations
- "which", being a pronoun, can refer to Things and Species... NOT HUMANS
So, Eliminate D, E & A
B has SVA Error; we need "work" and not "works". Eliminate B.
Answer: C

PS: In Hungary"--> Means that you are referring something in Hungary... So, not exactly a Noun.
