right strategy to go from 660 to 700+

by arti » Thu Aug 13, 2009 12:45 am
hello every1 ... erm ... i hav my gmat in like another month or so .... i scored 660 in my previous attempt at gmat (last week) .... i wz targettin more of like in 700s .... 41Q, 37V ...

i need 2 kno da right strategy required to achieve 700+ ... i wz scoring sumwhere arnd 680-700 in da prep tests from mba.com .... so i thought i'd cross da 700 line on da d-day but i dunnno i think i freaked out a lil during da test .... havnt got da awa yet but it didnt go all dat well ... i just cudnt think ... barely finished da argument in time .... splurged a lot of time in da 1st 10 q's in quant .... verbal was manageable but score begs 2 differ :p ...

frm my experience, i think i need 2 work on my speed a lil in quant .... i had 2 guess da last 2 q's in da test .... however i finished da verbal wid 4 mins in hand ...

My sc is pretty strong .... but i struggle wid RC .... in quant i hav 2 build speed ...

I hav OG 12, princeton review, manhattan sc, some prep tests ....

Would appreciate some tips on building speed in maths and tackling RC ... is there some other study material i need 2 purchase? ....

Thanks ....

Hi arti

i was in the same boat a few days ago
had a score of 680 but managed 730 this time arnd :)

well my advice to you will be that if you think that you are too slow
may be you can try vedic maths (maybe sounds weird) but that helps

when solving questions dont write the obvious things that are given in the statements.

Think one step ahead or solve one or two steps in mind

try to learn squares till 30 and percentages till 20.

These kind of info will save your time in actually calculating these things

Hope this helps

I also got 660 4 months ago -- 41Q and 40V.

41 Q means you have holes in your fundamental knowledge of math. Look at it this way: 41Q = 60%ile. If you took an exam and got 60% that means you don't know 40% of the material = there are some fundamental things you don't know.

So if I were you, I'd focus on making sure I have ALL the fundamental knowledge down.

I also scored 700 on GMAT Prep 2 but nerves got to me and I got 660. You need to be scoring 740 on practice tests to be safe.

Fix ur fundamentals.

Hope this helps.
