MGMAT -Fifth Ed. - Complete Prep Set

Hi guys,
I would like to ask anyone who has experience with MGMAT's complete prep set.

I tried GMAT after 4 weeks of studies while working and studying for my masters degree here in Czech Republic and failed miserably (620 - Q38,V37). Now that I look back at it, I rushed the whole process and just did not have enough time juggling between all my activities.

This February I should graduate from my program here and I can focus all my time after work on preparing for the GMAT and all the other application related activities. I was browsing for materials to study from and now have my eye on the complete prep set from MGMAT. The only other thing I own is Kaplan GMAT premier 2014, which is the only thing I used for my first try prep.

So any review on MGMAT's complete prep set (5th edition) would be helpful. Also if you have any other suggestions for someone like me who just discovered this forum and is starting to gather any information that might help me with my prep would be highly appreciated.

First of all, a 620 is not "failed miserably." Like you I have high standards for myself, but cut yourself a little bit of slack, a 620 on the actual test is a fine platform to launch from. You can certainly get from there to 700+

I am going to make a separate posting today with suggestions for new users to the site. I think that topic deserves its own discussion thread.

In terms of materials, before buying a complete set of anything let me ask you a question: Did you not use the Official Guide 13th edition at all? Or the Verbal Review or Quant Review? These are books offered by GMAC and they contain retired problems. These are considered essential. You will also want to consider the GMAT Prep Pack 1 add-on to the GMATPrep software. This is an additional 400+ problems from GMAC delivered on the computer.

Hi rk66,

In addition to the materials that you already have, you'll likely find the free material from www.mba.com to be useful (2 practice CATs and some practice problems). The 13th Edition Official Guide is also useful. You might benefit from some other practice materials, but there's no way to know right now, since you haven't studied long enough to know if you've hit a plateau or not. I recommend to most Test Takers that they plan to study for 3 months to hit their peak scores (although sometimes it takes longer). Since the GMAT is a standardized, predictable exam, it's essentially just a matter of how much time you need to hit your goal.

Hi guys,
First of all, I would like to thank you for taking your time to reply.

Now, I did download the GMAT prep from mba.com, and took the two tests. But that was few days before the actual test. Other than that I only had the one Kaplan book I mentioned, no official guide and nothing else. As I said, I kinda rushed the process since I only found out what GMAT really is in September this year... (I knew there is such a thing, but nothing about the format or anything else).

That's why I decided to skip applying this year and do things right the next time around. So I will aim for 1st/2nd round 2014. Considering the schools I have in mind, I am aiming quite high. Whatever other info/tips advice you can provide, it will be appreciated very much!
