Profile Evaluation for UCLA MFE

by radi » Sat Jun 20, 2009 9:09 pm
Hi Stacy,

I am looking to apply for MFE at UCLA for 2010 class. My deadline for application is july 31st.

My profile is as below:
BE Computer Science from reputed university in India.
Undergrad GPA: 3.69
TOEFL:108
GMAT: 640(49Q,28V)
CFA Level 1 given on june 6th 2009, awaiting results
Work experience: 7 years, out of which around 4 years is for Investment banking client. I did programming and business analysis for capital markets and prepaid cards.
I have enrolled for refresher math classes at UCLA

Do you think I have good chances to get into the master in financial engineerign program at UCLA? I know that only thing lacking in my profile is my GMAT score, actually I gave GMAT twice, once in march I got 640 and gave it again today and got 620. So I am not planning to give GMAT again, as I am cutting close to my deadline.

PLEASE HELP ME. Appreciate all your help.

Thanks,
Rekha

Dear Rekha,

Generally, you are a competitive applicant for a program where your GPA and GMAT are at or above the average. Since decisions are made on more than the numbers, your professional work experience, recommendations, essays and interview will also play a critical role in the decision. While your GMAT might be a little low, it seems you have a good GPA and some strong work experience, so you have a chance depending on how well you put your application together. You need to make sure you offer a compelling case for admission and convey what you have to offer to the program.

Good luck,
Lisa
