Need help with application strategy

by shaselai » Wed Jun 09, 2010 11:01 am
Hi Lisa,

I would really like to get into a Business school next year but dont want to sell myself short - i have about 10 schools in mind (i know it is a lot) and i know they are a good mix. My current strategy is to go ED on as many on my list as i can - CBS,fuqua, guizetta, kenan and then apply the rest on R1/R2 till R2 ends. I know it is going to be a lot of work but is there any strategy you can give to people who are going to apply to alot of schools? Many schools send notice almost at the end of R2 which almost means the R2 apps are all done BUT i havent submitted. Is that good to wait till last few days to submit apps (save some money) or with my situation I should just keep applying till R2 ends?

thanks.

Dear shaselai,

It is really your preference on how you want to time your applications and if you feel you can wait to submit in R2. You are correct that you will need to have those R2 applications done, so it is a matter of whether or not you would prefer to just go ahead and submit as you finish. Or, you can wait until the deadline day and hope that you have your other decisions by then. Either way, you will have your time and effort spent on R2 applications, but it might save you some application fees to hold until the deadline.

Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

i know some people say going over 5-6 is gonna lose out on quality. From my point of view - i can only control the quality of the online application, essay and interviews. LOR mainly depends on the sources whether they want me to edit/preview or not. Is 3-4 weeks per applications the right pace? thanks

It all depends on the application--how many essays, how similar the questions are to other schools, etc. So, for an estimate, 3-4 weeks is probably a good range for each application. In practice though, you might find that some will take you longer and some will take you significantly less time.

Lisa
