Stacy,

I was wondering if building an alternative transcript would help me. I have a low GPA (2.94/4). My major was Computer Science from a not-so-great school.
Also, I have more than 8 years of experience.

Creating what is called an "alternate transcript" can be helpful, but it has its limits. Do not fool yourself into thinking that this is going to replace your old transcript. Your original transcript is your GPA and no matter what, will be factored into your admissions decision.

Benefits of taking additional classes now include:
- demonstrating an interest in academics and learning
- proving that you can successfully juggle work, academics and other commitments
- showing that you have identified a weakness in your profile and are proactively doing what you can to address it, ie: demonstrating self awareness
- demonstrating that you can excell in quantitative courses, and handle an MBA type curriculum

Calculus would be a good class to start with. If you take a few more, consider Accounting and Statistics.

alternative transcript

sorry for interfering in d thread but i think my query is relevant.
dear Bhavna & MsStacy,
whats meant by alternative transcript?
is it some kind of strat to enrich the CV?
I mean is it like enrolling for a6-months-post-graduate diploma course?>> & scoring good points there.

The term "alternative transcript" refers to the idea of taking additional classes in any form after undergrad, in order to prove your academic abilities. However, it is important to understand that while there are benefits to taking these classes, they do not discount the original transcript. The undergraduate GPA will still be an important part of your application.

ok. so i can conclude that what i meant by A T is correct.
is it not?

or r you suggesting "[b] taking classes [/b]necessarily related to your undergrad degree."?

(see i am not the wise enough to understand those diplomatic answers

take this for example:

Person 'X' does engineering.......ends up with 'low gpa'
later finds interest in management education....
does some 6 months accounting classes.....& scores highest marks in the same..
Now;
though Engg has nothing to do with accounting,
if X provides acads result of her accounting classes then it would be called as A T
right>?

yes/ no?

Yes, the additional accounting classes would be considered the "alternate transcript".
