Hi,
I have been applying to/ researching on B-schools for about an year now, and I think now might not be a bad time to ask for feedback on my profile :)

I completed my Bachelors in Business studies with a specialization in finance from India. Since then I have been working in an HR consulting company, for the past 2.5 years. I want to enter in the financial services industry, specifically in the portfolio management sector. At the cost of sounding irresolute, I must say that I would go to a B school with an open mindset and would mould/change my aspirations accordingly. (And hence a B school strong in Finance / General management)

GMAT: 750 Verbal:40 Quant:50 AWA: 4.5

I have been academically strong (top 10%ile) in school/college and have had decent involvement in extracurricular activities too. Certain community activities include, working with UNDP on rehabilitation of tsunami victims, teaching kids coming from economically backward socities. In addition, my performance at work has been strong.

Last year I visited the Chicago GSB campus (while on a business trip), and was influenced enough to go ahead with the application. Admission was denied. I also aplied to NUS, Singapore and was denied there too. This year I applied to ISB, Hyderabad, and after the interview here, I was again denied.

My next step was to apply in 2 colleges in Singapore but I'm wondering if it is worthwhile to instead apply to a college in the US. Since I'm looking forward to join the class of '09, Iam keen on applying to institutes where I have a decent percentage chance.

Please let me know the universities you think I should apply to, and if my approach to applications is correct.

Thanks in advance !

Dear rajeevbat,

Before you continue spending resources on business school applications, I think you need to determine why you have been denied admission at these other schools. Your GMAT is strong, and even though you did not indicate your GPA, my suspicion is it is not your GMAT/GPA numbers are the problem but some other aspect to your application. Is it your essays? are your career goals not presented effectively and/or not well thought out? are your interviews going poorly? are you meeting the undergraduate degree requirement with your current degree? In the US, I'm not sure you have an equivalent degree with a Bachelor's in Business from India.

Once you know where you are falling short, then you can work to address that in your next applications.

Good luck,
Lisa
