They is incorrect…..ansaszi don’t called it wild spinach but its people in Arizona who call it that..So eliminate A and B

E is incorrect with usage which it is now commonly called…

C sounds most apt. now commonly called modifies the plant…
They harvested vegetation as purple-flowered bee plant, now commonly called wild spinach in ….

Whats the OA.....?

Option C makes sense to me if there would have been no comma .
However , with comma I think option B is the right choice .

Request experts to throw more light on this .

I think you guys are missing something here.

There is nothing wrong with the grammar in B and C

B: They refers to anasazi. But the anasazi are ancient now. Since they don't exist anymore, they can't commonly call it anything in the present.

Hence B is out and C is in.

A and B are wrong because of two reasons-

1. they is wrong because Ancient Anasazi is not plural as we are not clear whether we are refering to Anasazi society or Anasazi people.

2. Now commonly call is wrong tense because initial part of the sentence uses ancient i.e something which was there in the past and ancient anasazi if they refer to anasazi people can't call now
