For short-term, shows admissions officers how business school will be the bridge between what you're doing today and what you'd like to be doing upon graduation. For long-term, show how business school and achievement of your short-term goals will lead toward longer term success in your career.

Also, you are expected to be more specific about your short term goals , but you can afford to be a visionary with regard to your long term goal. Still, there has to be realistic connection between your short term and long term goals.

I like to think of it this way: your LT goals are your target. Miles and miles away, that red dot in the middle of the target, that bullseye you want to hit. From where you're standing now, your arrow will have to go through many points on the arc, and on the arc you would find your short-term and long-term goal.

It's also very helpful if your ST and LT goals are building upon your past work experience.
