Chances for NYU Langone?

by awbrown11 » Mon Feb 27, 2012 4:28 pm
Hi,

I took the GMAT a year ago after about 4-5 months of studying and taking Manhattan GMAT. I scored a 590 after getting 650-670 on the practice exams. I am not a good standardized test taker and I really don't want to retake the GMAT. My question is, do you think I have a shot at NYU's Langone with this profile:

Age: 28
Work experience: VP at a small PE firm with M&A and Capital Markets experience. I plan on staying at my current job and gaining experience as long as I can
Education: State school - not UVA, Michigan, UC-Berkley, etc., but more of a PSU/Maryland/Ohio State/UCONN type ranking with a 3.7 GPA

I don't want to go back full time and don't really want to take the GMAT again, but will if it is necessary for NYU Langone. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi awbrown11,

I recommend you take the GMAT again, particularly as you were scoring 70-90+ points higher on your practice tests. Your GMAT score is self-reported on your business school application, so admissions teams will focus on your highest score. There isn't much of a downside to taking the test again.
