GMAT retake question...

by mojomover » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:05 am
I recently took the GMAT and scored 720 but I am retaking it in a couple of weeks (I think I can do better and I felt that I did not perform at the best of my capabilities on d-day).

So my question is this---hypothetically, if I score less than 720, how would it impact my applications? I know schools say that they take the highest score but in this case....?

It depends on the school. For most schools, I'd say no impact.

Just be careful. One of our instructors used to work in b-school admissions and he said when he saw that someone had re-taken the test after already scoring extremely well on it, he actually downgraded that person's application b/c he thought it showed that the person did not have his / her priorities straight. That's just one anecdote - I have no idea how many other admissions people (if any) would feel the same way.
