640 GMAT, 4.5yrs job exp, Any luck...

Hi Experts,
I"ll appreciate any suggestions on my choice of universities with the kind of profile I have.

GMAT: 640 (Q-47, V-32, AWA-5.5)
Job Exp: 4.5yrs
GPA: 3.5
Indian Female, 25yrs

My industry experience has been in IT (ERP-SAP) for about 3 yrs and Sales & Marketing for SAP for another 1.5yrs. I have handled various US assignments from the client's location and my major area of expertise is in Oil & Gas sector and Supply Chain Management.
I intend to pursue my MBA in the Operations & Logistics and/or Sales and Marketing. My choice of universities are the ones which offer both the courses or in someway offer electives for each of these. I am planning to send my MBA application packets latest by Nov 15th to each of the following univs:
1. University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management
2. Texas A&M University - Mays School of Business
3. UBC - Sauder School of Business
4. Rice University - Jesse Jones SOM
5. UT Dallas - SOM

Please advise on my choice of schools. I have tried to pick a mixture of schools as my GMAT score is pretty low.

Your mix of schools is good. You are well within the middle 50% of the accepted applicants for all the schools you mention. Your strong, industry-relevant work experience will also help, as will being female. The Texas schools should have strong energy ties, which means they will appreciate your background.

You will need sparking essays and great recommendations, but if you put those together you should be in excellent shape. You may want to use a consultant to help you tell your story in the most persuasive possible terms.

Good luck,

AUS shows up as a top 5 school in supply chain and logistics - that will be important in your field. Purdue is another that's strong in supply chain and it accepts nearly 30% of applicants. Tennessee would be a strong safety school Those schools will have strong industry ties which would be important for post graduation jobs as well as internships.

Identify a few employers you would like to work for and see whether they interview at your target schools. Most schools will list interviewing firms and companies where their graduates work. Also, see if they have student blogs or chat rooms in which you can ask current students about their internships and interviews.

With a 640, the top 25 will be tough, but you should look at those with averages under 680 and acceptance rates around 30% or greater. UT Austin would be a stretch, but would have strong oil and gas industry ties.
