As more and more women

by kvcpk » Fri Aug 13, 2010 4:16 am
As more and more women develop breast cancer, the disease is given more media coverage, which will lead to increased funding for breast cancer research.

Which of the following, if true, offers the LEAST support to the argument above?

A. Although some breast cancer cases may be inherited, the primary cause of the increased number of cases may prove to be environmental.

B. In the past five years, several famous women have been stricken with breast cancer and given numerous interviews on the subject.

C. When a cause receives increased media coverage, philanthropic foundations tend to give that cause added financial support.

D. As long as a disease is unpublicized, it is unlikely to attract either researchers or funding for research.

E. In recent years, breast cancer has stricken more women than has any other type of cancer, or even any other disease.

IMO A.

This argument is causal in the sense that it relates media coverage and funding.
B,C,D support this view. Hence out.

E also supports by stressing on the fact that numbers of women with breast cancer has increased.

Hence, A which neither supports nor weakens the argument.

My pick is A
Which of the following, if true, offers the LEAST support to the argument above?

A. Although some breast cancer cases may be inherited, the primary cause of the increased number of cases may prove to be environmental. - This talks about the causes of breast cancer.

B. In the past five years, several famous women have been stricken with breast cancer and given numerous interviews on the subject. - this supports the conclusion because as more famous women gain publicity, the more media coverage breat cancer gets

C. When a cause receives increased media coverage, philanthropic foundations tend to give that cause added financial support. - so this supports additional funding because of media coverage

D. As long as a disease is unpublicized, it is unlikely to attract either researchers or funding for research. This also supports. Negate this statement and it lines up & supports the conclusion

E. In recent years, breast cancer has stricken more women than has any other type of cancer, or even any other disease.
so , as more women are affected by it, the increased media coverage and hence more funding

As everyone has posted A is right here guys.

one important Take-Away here is LEAST support doesnt always mean Weaken. It can be NEUTRAL too.

here choice A is neutral to conlcusion.

Imo A - E is better than A, since it tells you how severely breast cancer is hitting women.
