Amount spent by private companies = 0.3 x 355 = 100.5 billion dollars
(1) stem states that medicare spending was between 1/2 and 2/3 of private, i.e. between 50.25 and 67 billion. Not enough to conclusively say how much the spending was
(2) stem clearly states the amount spent by medicare = 50 billion less than that of private, i.e. federal = 100.5 - 50 = 50.5 billion. this is enough to answer the question
Hence (B)
