Nwebie Question - Where to start

by avishekchaudhury » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:10 pm
Dear All,

My name is Avishek. I am a Hotelier by trade and am planning to start my MBA from 2011. I know that there is still a LOT of time left, but especially because I do not have a very good high school or undergraduate degree, I really need to do well in the GMAT and get it out of the way.

I have not taken any diagnostic tests yet, but Math is my weak link.

Also the only book I have is the GMAT premier 2010.

AND I am immigrating to Canada in April, with my wife, so life is busy, busy now.

Thus keeping the above in mind, I do have the following questions :

1. What books should I be using to prepare myself for the GMAT ?

2. Keeping in mind that I can not spare more than 2 solid hours daily ( hotel life sucks !!! ) , how many months/weeks, should I keep for studying the GMAT ??

3. Could all you esteemed members suggest a study plan for me ?

4. As my MBA is going to be self funded, and I do not have enough money to study in either Usa or Canada I have decided to do my MBA from a triple accredited UK University like Aston or Strathlyde and then work in Canada . Is this a good plan ?

Please let me know

Waiting for your valueable comments.

Regards

Avishek

1) I would buy all of the Manhattan Guides if you plan on self study.

2) The study plan I would recommend is to try to find a third hour each day if you can. If you can spend 3 hours a day for about 3.5 months, you should be ready for the exam at the beginning of month 4. I would study like this, find the manhattan syllabus (you can find it online or ask one of our members that has taken the course to share it with you) and go through their syllabus.

3) I can't comment on this. Only you know your situation and what's best for you.

Good luck.
