solaris, yes the OA is C. But why C and not any other options? I think, I am even not understand the meaning of the sentence what it is supposed to mean. Guys help me pls!

Break up the sentence into phrases to understand it better. We have an author, Beatrix Potter, who carefully coordinated the illustrations in her books with her narration.
Now examine the choices:

a.) "carefully coordinating" does not parallel the tense of "capitalized." agree?
b.) same tense issue as above
d.) what was carefully coordinated? this choice suggests Beatrix Potter was carefully coordinated...which makes no sense! eliminate.
e.) "carefully coordinated them..." - what is them here? it's ambiguous right, so eliminate.

I had to choose between C and E and I picked E since I beleived "them" was refering to the word "illustrations" without ambiguity as "illustrations" was the only plural word that "them" could refer to at the time of it's usage.

I avoided C, since "she" was used in the sentecne before "Beatrix Potter" was even mentioned, so she didn't have a precedent to refer to.

Can anyone explain the flaw in my resoning? Can we use "pronoun" even if it refers to a noun that is not yet mentioned ?
