Only A and C qualify as potential answer choices. B, D and E can be discarded for confusing sentence structures and improper use of modifiers
A. which ...doubled the country's size and that brought - seems to refer to the doubling of the country's size causing the western border to come close to the Pacific when in fact it was the purchase that caused it
C. Perfect. doubling... and bringing correctly lays the emphasis on the purchase that caused these things to happen
