MGMAT DS

Bob and Wendy planned to walk from their home to a restaurant for dinner together. However, Bob was delayed at work, and Wendy left for the restaurant before Bob did. If the restaurant is 3 miles from their home and Bob left for the restaurant a half-hour after Wendy did, how long did Wendy have to wait for Bob at the restaurant?

(1) Wendy walked at a constant pace of 4 miles per hour

(2) Bob walked at a constant pace of 1 mile per hour faster than Wendy.

D = 3
stmt1:
3/TW = 4
TW = 3/4
No info about Bob's speed or time .. Hence INSUFF

stmt2:
SB = SW+1
No speeds are given in number. Hence time cant be calculated. INSUFF

Combining:
TW = 3/4 = 45 mins
SB = SW+1
SB = 4+1 = 5
Therefore, TB = 3/5 = 36 mins
Total time taken by B was 36 + 30 = 66 mins
Hence Wendy had to wait 66-45 = 21 mins.
(Calculation not needed)

pick C

However, I do not like the problem Because, it doesnt tell from where Bob started. We need to assume that he started from Home to restaurant. Are you sure that this is MGMAT's?

the solution to this DS is verbal calculations....see....

Wendy walked at 4 miles per hour..... BOB could have walked at 100 miles per hour or 1 mile per hour... so... there could be a time lag or a time lead...one does not know... so 1 is insufficient....

Wendy walks at 100 miles per hour and Bob 101 miles per hour....so Wendy has already reached even before Bob could start....
or
Wendy walk at 1 mile per hour and Bob at 2 miles per hour.... i.e. Bob reaches before Wendy...

try practice some questions verbally.... this will train your brain to think more mathematically....
