Sinus Headaches!

by sankruth » Mon Jan 14, 2008 1:45 am
Advertisement: Of the many over-the-counter medications marketed for the relief of sinus headache. SineEase costs the least per dose. And SineEase is as effective per dose as the most effective of those other medications. So for relief from sinus headaches, SineEase is the best buy.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above?
(A) Most of the over-the-counter medications marketed for the relief of sinus headache are equally effective per dose in providing such relief.
(B) Many of the over-the-counter medications marketed for the relief of sinus headache contain the same active ingredient as SineEase.
(C) People who suffer from frequent sinus headaches are strongly advised to consult a doctor before taking any over-the-counter medication.
(D) An over-the-counter medication that is marketed for the relief of symptoms of head cold is identical in composition to SineEase but costs less per dose.
(E) The per dose price for any given over-the-counter medication marketed for the relief of sinus headache is higher for smaller packages than it is for larger packages.

Why D and not C?

The argument is that Sinease costs least and is as effective among the over-the-counter medications marketed for the relief of sinus headache but if a simple head cold medicine costs less and has the same active ingredient, it weakens the argument that SinEase costs least and is as effective.

(C) is out of scope as the argument is only about comparing medicines, its cost and effectiveness.

Hope this helps.

Hey Iwas stumped with E, btw, isn't that option D talk about medicine of some other kinds....I saw some explanations but they seems irrelevant as if medicine for Kalajar cant be less costly than that of crosin why not so...for this case...after all the hell...how I am supposed to no difference between simple cold and sinus....i am not convince...

Can somebody talk more about optio nE too...

A,B are irrelevant.

mainhuna: Regarding (E), it is obvious logic of marketing. larger package always cost less as compare to smaller. So it is not related to argument.
(C) : The "Frequent" word here change the whole meaning of the sentence, if frequent was not there then it was great choice.
(D) In this option he is talking about over-the-counter medications, if it cost less and as effective as SineEase, then why does Buyer prefer SineEase.

A just reiterates whats in the argument. B, C and E are out of scope
D seems the sensibile choice.
But how would one know that a head cold and a sinus headache are comparable? That seems misleading. :o

In my opinion D is the most logical one
