Hot Dogs and Sodas

by RyanP » Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:23 pm
At a certain refreshment stand, all hot dogs have the same price and all sodas have the same price. What is the total price of 3 hot dogs and 2 sodas at the refreshment stand?
1. The total price of 5 sodas at the stand is less than the total price of 2 hot dogs.
2. The total price of 9 hot dogs and 6 sodas at the stand is $21.

Answer is b

I have no idea how that is computed. You could say each of the hot dogs cost .5 and yield an answer for each soda, but then you could also say each hot dog cost 2 and yield a different answer for each soda.

don't dig this much :)
you are asked to find 'What is the total price of 3 hot dogs and 2 sodas at the refreshment stand?' st(2) falls into 9D+6S=21 (D=hot dogs, S=sodas) and 3D+2S=7, exactly what you need, i.e. 3 hot dogs and 2 sodas.
