Travel by bus - probability

by ramyaravindran » Fri Feb 19, 2010 11:18 am
I do not have OA for this question.

A particular hospital is open only in the last week of every month. Assume that the hospital is open all 7 days of the last week. If 10 patients travel by bus to the hospital, what is the probability that atleast 2 patients travel on the same day?

Can someone help with this question.

Is it necessary that each day 1 person has to travel by the bus????
I mean to ask :-Can the bus go empty on any day??
In both the cases the answer would be different.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.

This problem can be done by assuming Poisson distribution for the arrival rate which is way beyond GMAT. On top of that the question sounds very vague.

I think the probability is 1 as there are more patients than no. of days so atleast 2 patients will surely go by bus the same day...
so probability =1 .
