Government spending.

by goelmohit2002 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 8:44 am
Hi All,

In the below question, OA is
"C"
.

Can somebody please help me understand what is the problem with
"D"
? Are we kicking out
"D"
because of wordiness or there is some rule of grammar that is broken here ?

In general people support cuts in government spending until they discover that it will affect their own day-to-day lives quite practically.

(A) it will affect
(B) it would affect
(C) the cuts will affect
(D) the cuts' affects will be on
(E) it will have an affect on

Thanks
Mohit

In general people support cuts in government spending until they discover that it will affect their own day-to-day lives quite practically.

(A) it will affect [Singular vs Plural]
(B) it would affect [Singular vs Plural]
(C) the cuts will affect Is right.
(D) the cuts' affects will be on This is wrong Mohit, becuase more than wordiness the use of cuts' affects is wrong.
(E) it will have an affect on Too long

I hope this helps !!

(D) the cuts' affects will be on

This is wrong because it does not comply with subject verb relationship.

Its against the grammar, to use cuts' followed by affects.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks. Got it.

if "D" would have been like:
Modified 1....D) the cuts' affect will be on
Modified 2....D) the cuts affect will be on

Then would either of "modified 1.... D" or "modified 2.... D" be correct ?

Thanks
Mohit

Honestly Mohit, I will have to check / confiirm myself, but IMO its the former one which I am going for.
Cuts' affect sounds good to me.
Lets take another opinion on this one.

D is wrong because the correct noun would be effect and not affect.
The equivalent noun of the verb affect is effect.
