Where do i start ?

by thirusrinivasan » Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:16 am
Hello Experts

I am planning for my GMAT in the next couple of months. Havent started prepartation yet but looks like i have started off fine by singing up in beat the gmat.

Can you guys recommend me some books and online study material ? Do we have any study centers in Singapore ? I am working Full time so can dedicate around 2 hours eveyday (weekdays) for the preparation.

Any other tips ?

Welcome to Beatthegmat! Joining this community is possibly the best step you could take in your journey towards the GMAT.
I'd suggest that you look around the forum and see what material people used here and then decide which books to buy.
The most important thing about the GMAT is to be consistent in your efforts and to have the right strategy. So you may want to go through of the posts in I just beat the GMAT forum and see what strategy,as well as books, did others use . This will help you in formulating a strategy for yourself.

Thanks Rishi. I am reading thorugh the forums now. Many are taking the prep test first and then choose their materials. In my case i dont feel comfortable taking the prep test because its been ages since i touched these GMAT sections. I am thinking of starting off with a book that would be like a refresher. Any suggestions here ?

Well, as such there's not any good all-in-one book. Most of the test prep companies have some or the other book good.
You've not mentioned which topic/area are you looking to brush up first and which section- Verbal or Quant do you want to kickstart with? Just tell me what do you want to begin with, and then maybe I can suggest you something ?

Well, I referred the Maths material for Indian B-school entrance exams and being an engineer,I didn't have much issue in Maths. However, you may want to try MGMAT Math Guides or Veritas Maths Guide as at least for Maths, I have heard quite good reviews about both them. You may have to check for their availability in Singapore though.

Thanks Rishi. I will ask around for these books or i should ask someone to ship from India. I was looking at the BEAT The GMAT Practice questions online questions (around 700) for 99$. Is it something that i can start with as a refresher ?

I think you should get these books in Singapore itself. At least, for MGMAT Guides, I think the chances are pretty high.
Don't use BTG practice questions now. Once you're through with revising your concepts and have a strong command over the different concepts, then you may wanna move on to BTG Practice Questions.
