GMAT Grammar rules American versus British

I have a question about the source of GMAT grammar. MGMAT SC book has been appreciated by many good scorers but I want to know whether GMAT wants to check American Grammar rules and concepts or British Grammar rules. Many argue that GMAC is an American test administering organization so it must be checking American standard grammar usage and style but regular readers of British Magazine "The Economist" have done great in this test so the point is which grammar GMAT tests?

If I have to make a selection between following grammar books then which one I should choose?

Cambridge University Press English Grammar in use

or

American English Grammar and Usage

The GMAT tests American English grammar, but I'd argue that the difference between British and American is pretty small, maybe relating to some idioms? I've been reading about this in the SC Bible from PowerScore.
