change of gmat game plan

by gmateasy » Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:09 pm
I was previously going for 5 weeks of game plan and was supposed to write my exam on April 30.

I've change that now to May 31.

Started preparation from April 1. I've 2 months of prep time. Staying at home full time, only 2 days I study light everyday.

Manhattan and official guides materials I'm using so I've 12 books to prepare.

I'll solve Manhattan 6 Cat's
Kaplan Premier 5 Cat's
Veritas Free Cat
Princeton Review Free Cat
Mba.com 90 practise questions from free tests and 2 cats
Plus I'll buy 2 additional cat's and also additional questions I'll purchase.

Keeping in mind this hectic job to be done in 2 months should I add Kaplan Premier guide 2013 another book I've or should I just stick with Manhattan and official guides.

I also want to know that I dont have any review procedure in place and I'm studying all 12 guides of manhattan and official guides for final time and then focusing on mistakes done in Cat's by learning it's concepts.

My question is that preparation material is it enough

Hi gmateasy,

Every Test Taker's approach is a little different, so you'll find what works for some people does not work for others. Adjustments have to be made; you'll find that you'll need to study certain subjects a bit more than others, but you won't discover which ones until you get deep into your studies.

You clearly have plenty of materials to work with, so you should get started. IF you get stuck at a particular scoring level on your practice CATs, then you'll know that you'll need to make some changes. If you don't get stuck, then you should proceed with whatever plan you've put together. In all of your past posts, you've mentioned taking LOTS of CATs. That is NOT a necessary part of the process. You have to take ENOUGH CATs (1/week is enough) and spend the bulk of your time on learning the material, learning tactics and constant review.

Rick:

I'll do 1 cat per week which you advise but here is my question on it.

Every week when I attempt 1 cat per week while learning manhattan and official guides concepts then there is a huge chance I'll not be able to perform well as I haven't done study of all guides.

Do I just need to attempt 1 cat cold or need to review its mistakes. Why review mistakes of incorrect concepts when its not learned yet. This is my question.

Hi gmateasy,

It takes time to build up your GMAT skills, but you still have to measure them periodically (even if you're not great at everything). Most Test Takers will screw up their first 4-5 CATs (silly mistakes, poor pacing, etc.), so you have to "build" those CATs into your schedule. Doing so will allow you the opportunity to make, AND FIX, those mistakes. Even when you see a question that you didn't know how to answer, you can note that concept for later review. Learning to crush the GMAT is a cyclical process: you'll end up going back to review earlier work and you'll likely go back to redo previous questions in different ways.

Yes, I got what you mean.

I'll do 1 cat every week in my 5 weeks study of all books and then I'll take last 3 weeks to do cats only.

Thanks
