Square Root DS

by mksreeram » Wed Aug 13, 2008 3:54 am
Explanation given by PR
From the question, we know that y can only be numbers like 32, 320, 3,200, 32,000, 320,000, etc. The only possible value of y that fits in the range given in Statement 1 is 3,200, so you should write down A D. You could also solve for y by taking the square root of both sides of the equation given in Statement 2, so the answer is D.

I am little confused. I selected (A) because, In Statement 2 can Y be taken as 3200 or -3200? In this case Statement 2 is insufficient right? Let me know your thoughts

From the original information, we know that a is a postive integer. Therefore, y will always be positive.

If we were to look at (2) in a vacuum, then y could be +/- 3200. However, since we know that y must be positive, (2) is sufficient alone.
