A certain company currently has how many employees?
(1) If 3 additional employees are hired by the company and all of the present employees remain, there will be at least 20 employees in the company.
(2) If no additional employees are hired by the company and 3 of the present employees resign, there will be fewer than 15 employees in the company.

Vishu

My approach

let n be the number of employees

A)n+3 >= 20

n>=23
Insuff

B) n-3<15
n<18

I choose E !! but OA is C

Comments??

Statement I

n+3 >= 20

n >= 17

Statement II
n-3<15
n < 18

Combining I & II

17 =< n < 18

therefore, n = 17

Hence C.

You messed up the inequality sign for statement II otherwise everything was fine.

Hope this helps.

Yep, doing my calculus in a hurry is one of the things that hurts me most too...

So... n?

(1) n+3>=20

So n>=17 INSUFF

(2) n-3<15

So n<18 INSUFF

(1)+(2) 17=<n<18. SUFF (assuming employees are integer xD)

Answer C

If anyone is watching this thread then the appropriate inferences from statements

If Present employees = X
Statement 1) X+3>or= 20 i.e. X >or=20-3 i.e. X >or= 17NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 1) X-3<15 i.e. X <15+3 i.e. X < 18 NOT SUFFICIENT

Combining the two statements

X >or=17 Also X < 18
i.e. X = 17

Answer: Option C
