if 400 men majored in Maths then how many women majored in Maths

the passing percentage of men and women given here implies their individual strength and from the given info, we can calculate the strength of men but not the class strength and neither the strength of women. and hence answer should be "Cannot be determined".

You can't tell how many women majored in math. Just because there were 1,000 men doesn't mean there were 1,000 women. There may have been 2,000 women. Then if 50% majored in math there would be 1,000 women majoring in math.
