Termites & Branches or Homes & Branches

Although they are less obvious, termites does significantly more damage to homes than branches from trees.

termites does significantly more damage to homes than
termites do the most damage to significant homes than do
the termite does significantly more damage to homes as do
termites do significantly more damage to homes than
termites do significantly more damage to homes than do


This was a googly for me. Please explain the logic in the sentence and your OA with OE. Also, is this type of questions are expected in GMAT. -Sourece MGMATtestprep.

Discard A: Termites does (Plural Noun Singular Verb)
Discard B: MOST is a superlative form so usage of most with THAN is wrong
Discard C: More ... than is correct not More ... as.

Between D and E IMO E

D: Although they are less obvious, termites do significantly more damage to homes than branches from trees.
D is ambiguous as we cannot say who is damaging whether it is Branches to Home or it is Termites to branches.

E: Although they are less obvious, termites do significantly more damage to homes than [they] do branches from trees.
in E in the second part THEY can be correctly omitted (it is called Ellipsis I think).
If the problem is Easy Respect it, if the problem is tough Attack it

does is incorrect. Option A and C eliminated.

Among B, D and E, "than do" is required. Option D eliminated.

Between option B and E, it should be "significantly more damage", so option B is eliminated.

Option E is the right answer.

Why option " D" eliminated. Why "than do" is required. IS the comparision between termits and Branches or Homes and Branches.

D is idiomatically correct and clearly suggests that termites do significantly more damage to X than Y

Although it is not correct to paraphrase the Gmat question to real world senarios , but option D makes the correct sense.
