one month mary used 1/6 of her monthly salary for the car payment and 1/4 more than the car payment for rent.what fraction of her monthly salary did mary use that month for the car payment and rent combined?

She used 1/6 for car payment (4/24)
She used 1/4 more of car payment for rent. This means she paid 1/6 + 1/4*1/6 for rent. So total 5/24 for rent.

So total on car and rent = 1/6 + 5/24 = 9/24. = 3/8.

let total = 24

car payment = 24/6 = 4

rent = 4 * 1.25 = 5

fraction = 4+5/24 = 9/24= 3/8
