Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay
until the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile
company are eligible for its severance package even if they find
a new job before they are terminated.

1st, you need to compare apples to apples, so severance packages to severance packages. For that reason A,B and C are out.

Between D and E, D is better since E gives the idea that workers have to be at the company until the last day is possible to collect. What is scheduled? the workers day or the days when is possibel to collect? The idea is workers are in the company until the last they THEY (workers are schdule to work in order to collect. Hence D is the right answer.

A, B and C are out as the comparison is not parallel (packages to packages)

E sort of modifies the meaning - "collect the last day" ?

Another vote for D

E Modifies the meaning. But OA is E. I think that the OA is wrong.

narrowed down to D and E...in D Their is dangling and so E is correct.
