what did you do initially when solving this problem?

After seening a few of the questions you've been posting, they all seem to invovle basic algebra once you've setup the equations. So it seems like you're having an issue with converting word problems into equations?
I beat the GMAT! 760 (Q49/V44)

F/J=3/2, F=3J/2

Also, (F+40)/J=5/3

Plug the value of F
(3J+80)/2J=5/3
9J+240=10J
J=240 ans.
