Knewton CATs

by misterchipper » Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:52 pm
How realistic are the Knewton CATs? The reason that I ask is that I have taken the GMAT once before and received a score of 680. I am now enrolled in the Knewton class and on my 1st and 2nd CAT I received a score of 650 and 640, respectively.

Obviously, this is not ideal and I am shooting for the elusive 700 mark. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

Not only Knewton CATs, but all the available CATs in the market have their share of problems, specially in the scoring methodology. They will show you a score which will be different from the GMATprep software and also they will markedly differ among each other. My suggestion, take as many practice CATs as you want, but for practice sake only, do not trust them for score assessment. The GMATprep is the only test you should trust to assess your scoring level.

Also, you may take the same GMATprep CAT couple of times. You will almost get 80-85% different questions each time. This way, you will be exposed to the maximum number of real test-like questions.

I agree with becnil. When I took the Knewton free gmat exam, I found that my score varied greatly. The first time I took it I found the exam to be really easy, the next time I found it to be a lot harder.

At the same time, they do offer a lot of questions, so it's definitely worth taking.

Thanks for the note.

We believe that the Knewton CATs are the best CATs available. We are this confident because 3 of designers of the original GMAT wrote the algorithm for our tests.

Your score on our CATs should mirror what you would have scored on the real GMAT that day.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Josh

I agree with the first comment. I have been studying a lot and I took my first GMATprep CAT a week ago and got a 710. This week I took Knewton's free test and got a 630. Knewton obviously has a stake in the test scores coming out lower/doesn't have the same scoring as the GMATprep. But whatever - as someone earlier said - the only thing that counts is the real thing. Plus this was free so I can't complain.
