Unlike a funded pension system, in Which contributions are invested to pay future beneficiaries, a
pay-as-you-go approach is the foundation of Social Security.

(A) a pay-as-you-go approach is the foundation of Social Security
(B) the foundation of Social Security is a pay-as-you-go approach
(C) the approach of Social Security is pay-as-you-go
(D) Social Security's approach is pay-as-you-go
(E) Social Security is founded on a pay-as-you-go approach

Hi j_shreyans,

The word "Unlike" at the beginning of the sentence is a "trigger word" for a Comparison. So we must compare LIKE things and do so in Parallel format (if possible).

When dealing with a comparison, you have MUST be very strict with the wording that you use:

For example, you can compare....
A person to another person (or several people)
A person's idea to another person's idea (or several ideas)
A system to another system (or several systems)
The approach of a system to the approach of another system
Etc.

1) Comparison: The first part of the comparison is "a funded pension system", so we need the second part of the comparison to present something that is like a pension system. There's only one answer that matches. "A","C" and "D" mention an approach, "B" mentions the foundation - none of these are "a pension system"

Final Answer: E
