BD/ACE grid ???

I have a question. I have been doing MGMAT question banks that come with the books, and keep seeing BD/ACE grid in the answer explanations [e.g. "let's use the BD/ACE grid for statement one"].

I have looked through my MGMAT guides, and none of them have an explanation for what this is.

Anyone have a clue?

For any DS question, set up a grid that is

BD
ACE

or

AD
BCE

depending on which statement you want to evaluate first. For example, say you want to evaluate statement 2) first, so you would write out

BD
ACE

If 2) is sufficient, then you would cross out ACE. Then you would evaluate statement 1) next. If 1) is also sufficient, choose D. If 1) is not sufficient, choose B.

Or if 2) was insufficient, cross out BD, and consider ACE. Move to statement 1). If 1) is sufficient, circle A, that is the answer. If 1) is insufficient, consider 2) and 1) together (choice C). If that is still insufficient (1 and 2 together), then the answer is E.

So basically, it is just a systematic way to approach DS questions, which helps you eliminate more than one answer at a time, thus slightly improving your odds at getting the question correct. Hopefully this makes sense.

Yes. This absolutely makes sense, since I have been using this method for the last 4 months. What threw me off was the GRID part. It made me think that there was some kind of a grid that I could use to systematically set up the information in the problem.
