6 days left until GMAT and freaking out!

by ravan.d » Sun Jun 05, 2011 1:12 pm
Hi Everyone,

I have been studying for my GMAT for almost 4 months on and off and almost every day for the past 45 days. I am writing on Saturday (June 11th) and have been scoring less than 500 on the practice tests.
I am unsure what do to now? I studied using the Manhattan GMAT study guides, completed all of the problems in OG 2, reviewed all advanced strategy for math twice and almost finished reviewing Verbal. I am very keen studier and have worked hard for months. But I am not seeing the results :S

I am need of some serious advice? I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Sorry for the sound of desperation but I am starting to freak out.

I have done one exam from the GMAT prep software and one CAT exam from the Manhattan website.

Thanks any words of encouragement will helpe.

And your target score?

If you are way off targets, why don't you reschedule your test? I mean better to reschedule than take a test knowing you are not ready and then carrying around a bad score for 5 years. Right?

You said you have prepared well. But have you identifies where you are going wrong? I mean have you analyzed your mistakes in both prep times and in practice? If you identify your weak areas, I am sure you will get an idea of what you are doing wrong.

Also, 2 practice tests is hardly a reflection of your real preparation level. Take more with full exam settings (including AWA). Analyze all your wrong answers. For e.g., did you know how to solve it but did not have time? Or did you not know how to solve it?

How is your Verbal preparation looking like?

I know my post sounds like I am questioning you. But that is not the intent. I just want you to ask these questions to yourself. Maybe the answer lies within you. Don freak out. It never offers any solution. :|
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

1. Stay Calm - It' a key thing to ace the test
2. Revise the rules and strategies
3. Eat well (Especially Chocolates, they induce the brains to release endorphins which helps improve focus and concentration) :)

Revise your flash cards daily...
And find out which areas you need to work on.
Also My advice will be to reschedule if your target is 700+.
But if you are taking exam in 6 days, don't freak out. This won't help you.
And do eat chocolates on the exam day :D
