Post-GMAT Profile for Evaluation

Hi!

I recently took the GMAT. While I was very satisfied with my overall score of a 760, however, I'm concerned with the breakout of my sub-scores: 46q (77%) 50v. Hearing more about this 80/80 rule has detracted from my celebrating and I'm now debating whether i should retake to address my academic well-roundedness...

Stats below:
-- White male from Wisconsin
-- GPA 3.5 from Dartmouth, Econ major with chem minor (decent grades [A-/B+] in quant classes like physics, organic chem, calculus, finance)
-- 4 yrs MC at a small, industry specialized firm at matric (with solid recs demonstrating leadership, quant work, promotion)
-- (What I think are) Cool ECs with volunteering/consulting for music outreach group in Chicago, a continuation of some work in college

Target Schools:
1. Stanford
2. HBS
3. Kellogg
4. Tuck
5. ???
6. ???

I guess my questions are the following:

1. To what degree should i address my quant gmat shortcomings? I'll NEVER be able to duplicate that verb score (fluke!), so i hesitate to retake. Should even address this in essays?

2. I'm huge on Stanford, but am I realistic?

3. Any recommendations on which school should fill the 5 and 6 slots?

3. How should i go about identifying the right admissions consultant?

Any and all advice will be much appreciated... thanks in advance!!!

Dear brewers_dude_09,

1. To what degree should i address my quant gmat shortcomings? I'll NEVER be able to duplicate that verb score (fluke!), so i hesitate to retake. Should even address this in essays?
I don't really see any "shortcomings" in your GMAT score. Congratulations on the 760--that is awesome! Had you taken the GMAT 6 months ago or 3 months from now, you might have had an 80% on your quant as the percentiles fluctuate based on the pool you are compared to (which is always in flux). So, I think your score will work for you--just my opinion.

2. I'm huge on Stanford, but am I realistic?
Yes, you are realistic. However, you might work on counting (see your question numbers below--ha! ha!)

3. Any recommendations on which school should fill the 5 and 6 slots?
I encourage you to visit our sticky on school selection for some tips on determining a school. I would also encourage you to apply to at least one school (maybe 2) outside the top 10. The top 10 are highly selective, and while I think you have a definite shot, it is always good to have a backup plan.

3. How should i go about identifying the right admissions consultant?
Research, research, research. Many of us offer a free consultation, so that is a great way to learn about services and prices.

Best of luck,
Lisa
