Experience ?

by oustone85 » Tue May 05, 2009 12:30 pm
I am thinking about applying to start in the Fall of '10. I am 23 years old (will be 25 when I start) and will have 2.5 years of experience. My undergrad is from the University of Oklahoma where I had a 3.2 gpa and a double major in Finance and Accounting. I currently work in General Ledger Accounting for a well known apparel company. I took the GMAT last summer and made a 690, with a 6 AWA.

I'm primarily looking at TCU, SMU, and Rice. I'm pretty confident that i'll be accepted to each of my target schools, however my question is how much stronger of a candidate would I be if i waited to apply for Fall of 2011? Do you think an extra year of work experience would make much of a difference in terms of possible scholarship opportunites?

Dear oustone85,

I don't think an additional year of experience will have any impact on whether or not you receive a scholarship (nor will it impact the amount). The only reason to wait another year is if you think you are not quite ready for fall 2010 AND/OR you know you will earn some quality work experience that will greatly strengthen your profile (i.e., promotion, greater responsibility, international assignment, etc.).

Best of luck,
Lisa
