Just got beat by GMAT!!!

Hey guys,
I cant say ive been a very active member here but thought id share my story and see if you guys have any suggestions/recommendations.
I started studying for GMAT about 4 weeks ago and thought i was making good progress. Coming from a quant background the math was pretty basic but the application was not. So I practiced from OG and from the manhattan books and always did reasonably well, never scoring less than 48. Verbal however was a whole other story. It was so up n down even the week before the test. i did about 4 practice tests the week before n it ranged from 32 to 41. I stayed positive and went in to sit my GMAT today.
The essay went ok. With IR i ran out of time but it went alright overall. Then the real test began, and i was pretty comfortable with the quant section, but the verbal killed me. I spent too much time on one RC passage and i was left with 10 questions n barely 11 minutes on the clock. Then the panic set in n i started losing focus, just picking choices that had the right 'look' over actually going through everything in detail. In hindsight i probably wouldve been better off answering as many as i could thoroughly instead of trying to finish in time.
I knew rushing in the end was gonna come back to haunt me as i was waiting for my score to show up. And there it was 680 (48q, 35v)!!!!!
I know it isnt a terrible score but it is lower than what i was expecting and hoping for. I feel like I should do it in a month again and apply for schools in the second round. I dont know if that is a good idea but my ego just wont let me apply with anything under 700.

I think it's not that good, but fine. You don't have to go through all the stress again in my opinion. But if you're really not happy with your results ... then do it again! As you want! Hopefully it gets better the second time!

Hey guys,

i just sat the GMAT today and scored a 720 (q50,v38), a 40 point improvement over the last time. I know its probably not very high but i believe it gives me a slightly better chance at the schools im aiming for. Thanks a lot to the beatthegmat community and good luck to fellow gmatters. I would share my story but its not something i would recommend. I took a 2 week break after the last time which consequently turned into a 4 week break and ended up sitting the test with literally 3-4 days of prep and 1 practice test since the first attempt. I believe the first time round my prep was extensive but nerves got the better of me and this time round i was a lot more relaxed and it definitely showed. In fact i finished my verbal section with more than 15 minutes to spare so that had me a bit worried. Anyway im content with this score and will continue to work on my applications for round 2.
Thanks and good luck everyone
