pls help with the solution

A has $18 more than what B & C together would have had if both B and C had 1/4 of what A has. How much does A have?

(A) 20

(B) 48

(C) 32

(D) 36

(E) 40

i got a as 24 since there is no option with 24 i choosed b

this is how i got 24

(a/4)=a-18
3a/4=18
a=24.

a=24.
A = B + C + 18

B = C = ¼ A

∴ A = ¼ A + ¼ A + 18

Or A = ½ A + 18

Or ½ A = 18

go by ans is the quickest way to solve this
if a is 36 then b is 9 and c is 9
b+c=18
36-18=18 satisfy the question stem
