Hi Everybody,

I took the GMAT 2 years ago and scored a 630.This was when I was in college.I plan on applying for the fall of 2014 and I'm taking the GMAT next week, I've been studying start stop over the past 4 months,I know all the concepts but my score just isn't improving.I'm not sure if I should just not take the exam again. Here are my scores

GMAT - 630 ( 2 years ago )

MGMAT 1 - 590
MGMAT 2 - 540
MGMAT 3 - 640
GMATPrep1 - 600
MGMAT 4 - 610

Is it possible that I've actually become dumber since graduating? Should I just cancel my GMAT that is next week? What if my second attempt score is lower than my first? Does that reflect badly on my apps?

Regards.

Hi chelseablue,

I'm going to assume from your post that you're not happy with your current scoring level. Your practice CAT scores are all in range of your official GMAT score, so your "problem" is not an issue of intelligence so much as not adapting your process to pick up the missing points that you're after. If you test as planned, you'll likely score much as you did before.

So, you've got a couple of options:

1) Take the Test as scheduled and see what happens. This is not a bad thing, but if you're not happy with the current state of things, you could...
2) Pay $50 and push your test back a bit. Maybe another month or 2 of studying and seeking out some help will help you to make the necessary adjustments.

The good news is that Business Schools don't really care if you retest. However, if your goal is a top B-school, then you'll likely need to raise your score a bit. What resources have you been using to study?

Thanks for the input. How do I work on these missing points that I gotta pick up on? I've decided to ditch verbal and concentrate only on quant now.Individually I know all the concepts and I can solve them.Plus I'm doing terribly bad on the IR's like 2-3.

I using the MGMAT and OG guides.

Thanks

Hi chelseablue,

Before committing solely to the Quant section, can you post your Scaled Scores for the Quant and Verbal for each of your CATs? While there are likely points to be had in both sections, there's no way to tell from the overall score what the disparity may be.
