d)The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing

"result that" is not correct. "result in" is correct.
B and E eliminated.

"stinger.....stays" is correct thus A and C are eliminated

IMO: D

Dont you think "stinging causing" is wrong? it should be stinging causes.

What do you think about option E, i think its better than D.

Break down the sentence as follows :

...stinger(subject, singular)... stays( action, singular, present tense)....causes( action, singular, present tense)

b and c are just ridiculous , and it should be obvious to everyone

d tense mismatch : stays (present tense) , causing (present continuous)

e is correct .. tenses match ...

the fact the stinger stings does not cause the bee to sustain fatal injury; it is the fact that it stays which causes fatal injury (hence the clarification that it is barbed)

IMO E.

Moreover, in B & D, "it" is ambiguos and in general, it should be stinger.

So, we can eliminate them.
