Q: A pizzeria sells small pizzas for $7.99 and large pizzas for $2.99.
If its total sales last Saturday amounted to $949.00 and it sold 30
large pizzas, how many small pizzas did it sell?

A. 65
B. 70
C. 75
D. 80
E. 85

I tried to use the largest possible value (85) and i still get way
under 949.00.

OA: B.........

Based on the answer seems like the price of large pizza should be 12.99 instead of 2.99.

949-(12.99*30) = 559.3
No of small pizza sold = 559.3/7.99 = 70

Yes, there's certainly an error somewhere in the problem. Notice that (if the problem were correctly formulated) you don't need to do any calculation here: if the total earnings is 949.00, and all of the prices end in .99, then the total number of pizzas sold must be a multiple of 100. Why? Well, if you sell one pizza, the total earnings will end in .99, if you sell two it will end in .98, if you sell 30 it will end in .70, etc, because each pizza sells for .01 less than a whole number. So, since 30 large pizzas were sold, 70 must be the answer.
